Senior Underwriter – Short-Term Insurance
Location: Fourways, Johannesburg
Salary: R35,000 – R40,000 per month (negotiable for the right candidate)

As a member of our underwriting team, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining our high standards of service and client satisfaction.
Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Underwriter to join our underwriting team of four professionals. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling all aspects of underwriting and policy administration under a full binder facility. This role requires a highly organized and proactive individual with strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of the short-term insurance market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwriting & Risk Assessment: Assess and evaluate risks across personal, commercial, and specialty insurance classes, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Policy Administration: Manage policy documentation, amendments, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations with precision and accuracy.
- Client Interaction: Communicate effectively with clients, brokers, and insurers to ensure smooth policy processing and address any queries.
- Negotiation & Placement: Engage with insurers to secure competitive placements and tailor insurance solutions to meet client needs.
- Invoicing & Financial Processing: Ensure accurate invoicing, premium calculations, and processing of policy transactions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to FAIS and RE5 regulatory requirements, ensuring all processes align with industry standards.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and submit monthly reports to insurers, ensuring transparency and accuracy in underwriting processes.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting team members and contribute to a positive and efficient work environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- FAIS Compliant and RE5 Certification (Non-Negotiable)
- A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in short-term insurance underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of personal, commercial, and specialty insurance classes.
- Excellent communication skills in English (Afrikaans is a bonus, as we serve many Afrikaans-speaking clients).
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and risk assessment ability.
- Proficiency in policy administration and underwriting systems.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently while being an active team player.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and problem-solving capabilities.
